Tony Horwitz Prize

The Tony Horwitz Prize to honor a distinguished historian whose work has wide appeal and enduring public significance. The prize, which carries an award of $5,000, commemorates the Society's former president (2016-2017), who died in May 2019. Tony Horwitz was a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, a former staff writer for the New Yorker, and a distinguished historian whose distinctive voice was marked by surpassing humanity and grace. The prize, which was awarded for the first time in 2020, is supported by The Cedars Foundation.

Please note: the Society does not accept nominations or submissions for the Horwitz Prize. The winner is chosen each year by the Society's current President and executive officers.
